“Mille viae ducunt homines per saecula Romam” – All roads lead to Rome – one of the most visited cities in the world. Its narrow cobblestone streets made us want to get lost and stay there forever. When thinking of Italy, one can’t not think of all the gluten – pasta, pizza, focaccia, cannoli, tiramisu. And one could get sad and depressed and discouraged to go. And that would be a shame. Italy is amazing with awareness of celiac disease. Many restaurants cater for celiacs, and here are some of those we had the pleasure to visit.
Mama Eat Roma
Via di S. Cosimato, 7/9, 00153 Roma RM, Italy

This little restaurant in the colorful bohemian area of Trastevere was sent to Earth by God himself. It was by far the best pizza we’ve ever had. It is on-par with a normal glutenous pizza, I wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference. The pasta was also amazing, so was the desert.
Celiac plus points: They’re super knowledgeable about celiac disease. All the food is prepared separately.
We tried: Pizza quattro formaggi, spaghetti a carbonara, tiramisu al pistacchio
Voglia di Pizza
Via dei Giubbonari, 33, 00186 Roma RM, Italy

La Soffitta Renovatio

Restaurant right next to the Vatican, with great atmosphere and friendly staff. Al dente pasta, delicious pizza and amazing deserts.
Celiac plus points: Very knowledgeable about celiac disease. Gluten free dishes are clearly marked.
We tried: Pasta with pecorino cheese, Diavola pizza, fruit tart, chocolate mousse
Pandali
Via di Torre Argentina, 3, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
